Buenos Aires Cafe Take Two The Cheat Meal

When you hire a personal trainer and she tells you that you can have one cheat meal per week, you make the best of it, and that's exactly what I've been doing.

On this occasion I was treating my good friends and clients to celebrate the sale of their home and invited them to one of my favorite restaurants in Austin, Buenos Aires Cafe Este.

Appetizers are a must here, the empanadas are scrumptious and we ordered two kinds.
The carne suave (meat empanada with mild seasoning) and the spinach, with two sides of chimichurri sauce, the best seasoning you will find in any restaurant in town.

For the main dish, my friends ordered Pollo al Horno to share, a perfectly marinated free-range chicken breast roasted with fresh herbs & spices served with polenta and wilted Swiss Chard. It must have been good, because there was nothing left on their plate.

I ordered the best gnocchi, with three original flavors - pumpkin-cinnamon, sweet potato-chipotle and cilantro-jalapeno & potato - tossed with roasted red peppers, artichoke hearts, mushrooms, haricots verts, Parmesan and finished with crema, parsley, red pepper and  balsamic reductions. These were finger licking good, not that I literally did that, but the plate was bare when I was done.

This was a very filling meal, but Buenos Aires Cafe has some of the best desserts as well, and since I had carte blanche for this meal, we ordered one dessert to share. This time it was the lemon pie. It came to the table as a personal pie and three spoons, which we immediately devour. From the meringue, to the lemon filling, all the way to the crust, pure perfection.

When you go try this restaurant, make sure you save room for dessert, or order it to go to have later, your taste buds will be thrilled you did.

They also have a fully stocked bar, great selection of wines and cocktails, fabulous ambiance for date night or any celebration with friends or family.

Be healthy and be happy.
